Potato chips have become the most popular product in snack food, especially non fried baked potato chips, which are healthier, have a variety of flavors, and are loved by consumers due to their wide variety. Consumers are particularly concerned about the hygiene and safety of the potato chip production and packaging process, in addition to their love for the taste of potato chips. This concern is not unfounded. In China, most potato chip manufacturers still require manual sorting and packaging of chips, which not only incurs excessive labor and management costs for enterprises, but also increases the possibility of secondary pollution in their products.

In the past, robots were used to pick up a maximum of 100-120 potato chips per minute, which not only had low efficiency but also high equipment costs, making it impossible to achieve automated production.
 
The robot intelligent potato chip picking and packaging production line jointly developed by Johnson Smart and Feiluo Robotics has filled the industry gap, with a single robot picking speed of up to 330 pieces per minute. Not only does it improve efficiency, but it also significantly reduces equipment cost investment.

In August 2017, Johnson Smart officially put into use a robot intelligent potato chip picking and packaging production line manufactured by a potato chip manufacturer in Hangzhou. A total of 14 Delta robots and 14 intelligent cameras were used to sort and package about 350KG of potato chips per hour.

Each picking robot unit consists of a Delta robot, an intelligent camera, a pallet delivery mechanism, a flipping mechanism, and a pallet delivery system. On average, each robot picking unit picks up 25KG per hour. Packaging can be picked up in order of potato chip shape, with low loss and dynamically adjustable picking quantity.
